Dog Names (Beyond Bella and Bailey)

I love naming dogs.

Due to a compromise in my home, my favorite names will never be taken for my own dogs. It’s fine. Maybe you can use one. Happy to help.

How to name a dog:

  1. It should be a special name. No other dogs in your neighborhood should share it. (This is from a Jennifer, 1 of 5 in all my classes K-12).
  2. Usually, names with one or two syllables are best. (according to Patricia McConnell PhD). Make it a sonorous word so it rolls off the tongue for a nice recall cue.
  3. Say it loud and there's music playing, Say it soft and it's almost like praying.
  4. Don't fear the whimsy! We get to name our dogs the names we could never name our kids.
  5. Choose a name that you will want to call out for the next two decades of your life.
If you have some good names in mind, comment and I will add them to the list.
